$15m Ibori money given to FG by court

Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Nigerian capital on Friday awarded the Federal government, ownership of $15million, the money used by former governor of Delta state purportedly to bribe a former chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Malam Nuhu Ribadu, head of the EFCC at the time had warehoused the money with the Central Bank of Nigeria and even went further to charge the jailed governor with a bribery attempt.
The money has been the subject of legal tussle between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Delta State Government, since Ribadu was removed from the EFCC by the Yar’Adua presidency.

The EFCC had in July 2012, approached the court, requesting for a final order forfeiting the $15 million Ibori bribe which had been lying in the vaults of the Central Bank of Nigeria for more than five years to the Federal Government as unclaimed proceed of crime. But the Delta state government challenged the application as the state government laid claim to the said amount.
Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs had told the court that it was too late for the Delta State government to lay claim to the money because of the actions which the state government instituted against the EFCC on the ground that the governor should not be investigated.
Justice Kolawole while delivering his judgement said he viewed the stiff resistance mounted by the Delta state government and its official as one which borders on the state’s acquiesce in the looting of its own fund or at best, as that of collaborators with its erstwhile governor on issue of $15 million allegedly offered to former EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu as bribe”.
Justice Kolawole said that in the final analysis, “the applicant’s application to make a final forfeiture order succeeds and the said sum of $15 million dollars is hereby forfeited to the first applicant that is the federal government who shall take steps to capture in its earnings of the Federal Government of Nigeria in its 2012/2013 fiscal year and shall administer the funds to address specific needs that will be beneficial to a greater number of the citizenry”.
He also ordered that the sum be immediately paid to the coffers or account of the appropriate authority of the Federal Government of Nigeria where earnings such as this are kept in the ordinary course of official business”

BARKA JUMAT TO ALL MY MUSLIM BROTHERS AND SISTERS

Salamalikun my muslim brothers and sisters, may Allah accept our Dua .
Today i will be discussing on the pefomance of jumat prayer

The Performance of the Juma'h Prayer

Performance of the Juma'h prayer is only allowed in the Congregational Mosques where, Muslims congregate and from where the Imam gives them advice and spiritual insights.

The tirne for the Juma'h prayer is the time of the Dhuhr prayer, although, some Muslim jurists and scholars are of the opinion that it is permissible to perform it before the sun reaches its zenith.

Much importance and reward has been attached by Islam to the timings of going to the Friday Prayer as can be noted from the following saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “Any person who takes total ablution (ghusl) on friday and goes out for the friday prayer in the first hour (i.e. early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel (in Allah's cause), and whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow,- and whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram, and whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a hen, and whoever goes in the fifth hour, then, it is as if he offered an egg. When the Imam comes out (to deliver the sermon), the angels present themselves to listen to the sermon” (Reported by Imam Bukhari).

However, it is a recommended Islamic tradition that the person comes up with the following pre-requisites before going out to the Friday Prayer:
  • Undertaking Ghusl (total bath). The Prophet (peace be upon him) in this regard says: “Ghusl on Friday is necessary (Wajib) upon every adult person” (Reported by Imam Bukhari).
  • Putting on the best and cleanest of clothes.
  • Perfuming of oneself.
Having undertaken the above pre-requisites, the person then proceeds to the mosque in tranquility fully conscious of Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala). Upon reaching the mosque, the person enters by stepping in with the right foot first proclaiming the following private supplication: "BISMILLAAH WASALAA TU - WASSALAMU 'ALAA RASULULLAAH. ALLAHUMMA AFTAHLII ABWAABA RAHMATIK" which means: "In the name of Allah ... May peace and blessings be on the messenger of Allah. O Allah open to me the gates of your mercy ".

Having entered the mosque, the person comes up with two rakaats (minimum because there is no certain amount of Rakaats to be performed before Friday Salat) as salutation to the mosque in accordance with the following famous saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “If anyone of you enters the mosque, do not sit until you have performed two rakaats” (Reported by Imam Al-Bukhari).

The person then await for the sermon to start and may in the meantime read the Holy Qur'an and/or come up with whatever supplications he can.

When the Imam enters the Mosque, the "MUADHIN" (Prayer Caller), would make the "ADHAAN", (i.e. the call to the prayer) and the person would be answering the call in the manner already discussed earlier.

When the Muadhin completes the Adhaan, the Imam climbs the pulpit to deliver the sermon and the person is required to devote his whole attention and, is forbidden to talk or keep oneself busy with even minor activities in the course of the sermon. The Prophet (peace be upon him) says in this regard: “He who performs ablution properly and comes to the Jumah prayer and listens to the sermon attentively, will have his sins from the previous Friday plus three more days forgiven and he who occupies himself with pebbles during the sermon has performed badly” (Reported by Imam Muslim).

Upon completion of the first part of the sermon, the Imam sits down for a brief pause and then, stands up again for the second part of the sermon. After that, he comes down from the pulpit and the MUADHIN makes the second call for the prayer IQAMAH and a two rakaat congregational prayer is accordingly performed which is the same in all respects to the Faj'r prayer.

Upon completing the Jumah prayer, a person may come up with voluntary prayers which if done at the Mosque consists of four rakaats (each two rakaats performed separately) but if, done at home (upon one's return from the mosque), consists only of two rakaats as the Prophet (peace be upon him), used to do.

ghen Ghen Worst storm hit britain

LONDON(AFP) – Britain was braced on Sunday for its worst storm in a decade, with heavy rain and winds of more than 80 miles (130 kilometres) an hour set to batter the south of the country.
The Met Office national weather centre warned of falling trees, damage to buildings and disruption to power supplies and transport when the storm hits overnight to Monday.
Between 20 and 40 millimetres (0.8 to 1.6 inches) of rain is predicted to fall within six to nine hours starting on Sunday evening, with a chance of localised flooding.
It will be followed by widespread gusts of 60 to 70 miles an hour across southern England and south Wales on Monday, with winds reaching more than 80 miles an hour in some areas, forecasters say.
The Met Office issued an “amber” wind warning for the region, the third highest in a four-level scale, and urged people to delay their Monday morning journeys to work to avoid the worst of the bad weather.
London’s rush-hour looked set to be chaotic after train companies First Capital Connect, C2C, Greater Anglia, Southern and Gatwick Express services all said they would not run services on Monday until it was safe to do so. That is likely to be after 9.00am (0900 GMT), according to forecasts.
Major airports also warned of disruption to flights with London-hub Heathrow expecting approximately 30 cancellations.

Cross-channel train service Eurostar said it would not be running trains on Monday until 7.00am, meaning delays to early services.Several ferry operators said they had cancelled some cross-Channel services and Irish Sea crossings.
Britain last experienced similar wind strengths in March 2008, but forecaster Helen Chivers told AFP the expected damage was more comparable with a storm seen in October 2002.
Prime Minister David Cameron received an update from officials on contingency planning in a conference call on Sunday, amid fears of similar damage wrought by the “Great Storm” of October 1987.
That left 18 people dead in Britain and four in France, felled 15 million trees and caused damages worth more than £1 billion ($1.6 billion or 1.2 billion euros at current exchange rates) as winds blew up to 115 miles an hour.
Martin Young, chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: “While this is a major storm for the UK, we don’t currently expect winds to be as strong as those seen in the ‘Great Storm’ of 1987 or the ‘Burns Day storm’ of 1990.
“This weather system is typical of what we expect to see in winter but as it’s coming in during autumn — when trees are in leaf — and while the ground is fairly saturated, it does pose some risks.
“We could see some uprooted trees or other damage from the winds and there’s a chance of some surface water flooding from the rainfall — all of which could lead to some disruption.”
Veteran weather forecaster Michael Fish also said Sunday’s storm was unlikely to be as severe as 26 years ago, although his comments will be taken with a pinch of salt in Britain.
Fish was the BBC’s main television weatherman in 1987 but famously denied that a major storm was on its way just hours before it hit.
This year’s storm has been named St Jude after the patron saint of lost causes, whose feast day is on Monday.
It is likely to affect northern France before heading off towards Denmark, forecasters said.

Lagos (AFP)Nigerian police have raided a baby factory in the oil city of Port Harcourt and arrested a woman accused of harbouring six pregnant girls, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.
“We rescued six girls last week at different stages of pregnancy from an illegal maternity home in Port Harcourt,” Joy Elomoko of the Imo State police told AFP.
She said the youngest of the girls was 14, without disclosing the ages of the others.
“We have also arrested the proprietress of the clinic and she is assisting us in our investigation,” she said.
Elomoko said the raid on the Port Harcourt home followed the arrest of a girl with a baby in nearby Owerri on October 15.
“A lady was found in suspicious circumstances with a day old baby and after interrogation she confessed that she gave birth to a baby in Port Harcourt,” the police spokeswoman said.
Elomoko said police detectives followed the girl to Port Harcourt where six expectant mothers were found in a clinic run by a woman.
“The woman could not produce any document authorising her to operate the clinic and she was subsequently arrested,” she said.
She said the girls also told police that they were being kept in the home to make babies which would be sold to willing buyers.
Elomoko said the suspect would be taken to court after police investigation.
Nigerian police have uncovered a series of alleged baby factories in recent years, notably in the southeastern part of the country. Baby boys can sell for a price of around $250 (180 euros), baby girls for slightly less.
Human trafficking, including the selling of children, is the third most common crime in Nigeria behind fraud and drug trafficking, according to the United Nations
Nigeria is Africa’s biggest oil producer, but poverty is widespread across the country and most of the estimated 160 million people still live on less than two dollars a day.
